We’re excited to announce that hit songwriter Marty Dodson will be the featured guest at our Zoom workshop meeting on Jan. 18, 2025.
Marty Dodson’s family moved to Nashville when he was 5 years old. He had always loved music but was intimidated by people he met who had not been successful, so he went to college and got a degree in psychology.
Ten years went by before Marty decided to follow his dream of becoming a songwriter. He eventually got a publishing deal with Kim Williams. His first Top 10 hit was "While You Loved Me" by Rascal Flatts. His first #1 hit was “Must Be Doin’ Somethin’ Right” recorded by Billy Currington, written by Marty, Billy and Jason Matthews. Marty has had seven #1 songs. Other artists who have cut his songs include Kenny Chesney, Joe Cocker, Carrie Underwood and Blake Shelton.
Marty and Clay Mills, who was a recent special ASA Zoom guest, help aspiring songwriters through SongTown USA. SongTown provides community and coaching from music industry pros for those looking to level up their songwriting and get their songs heard. Learn more at songtown.com.
He is also the co-author of “Song Building: Mastering Lyric Writing” and “The Songwriter’s Guide to Mastering Co-Writing.”
He will tell you the decision he made to follow his dream was worth it. He wakes up every day now and gets to do something he loves to do. For more information and to see a list of Marty's notable cuts visit his website: martydodson.com.
